Cheque usage across Australia has declined significantly, with more people choosing faster, more secure digital payment options. As part of this broader industry transition, QBANK is phasing out cheque services.

These changes follow the Australian Government's plan to decommission cheques nationally by 20301.

What this means for you

  • From 1 November 2026, personal cheques can no longer be written.
  • From 1 November 2026, corporate and bank cheques will no longer be issued.
  • Cheques already written can continue to be deposited until 1 February 2027.

Alternative ways to pay

There are a range of simple and secure alternatives available:

  • PayID and Osko® – Fast payments, near real time
  • BPAY® – Convenient bill payments
  • Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) – Easily send money between accounts
  • Direct debits and scheduled payments – Ideal for recurring expenses
